What’s the best “Career Path” for Growing Your Knoxville Real Estate Business?

Knoxville Real estate agent and customer looking for an apartment.

Welcome to the world of real estate in Knoxville! I like to call it fast and furious, but others use the word exciting. While real estate is generally thought of as merely buying and selling properties, there is so much more that goes into it! There are dozens of different areas of expertise to pursue, all of which are necessary to make the business flow smoothly. So which career path is best for you as you seek to grow your real estate business here? Is there a Knoxville real estate team that could benefit you? Consider the career paths discussed below.

1. Residential or Commercial Real Estate Agent

Real estate agent is usually the first job that comes to mind in this particular field. Unfortunately, this kind of agent is nothing like being a secret agent. Instead, the real estate agent is the person who makes connections with the buyers and sellers. They conduct showings for particular properties and they help clients think through their options and offers. Residential real estate agents focus on (you guessed it) housing and properties in residential areas. Commercial real estate agents, on the other hand, specialize in properties that pertain to businesses. If you have a charismatic personality and you love making connections with other people, being a real estate agent might be a good fit for you.

2. Real Estate Investor or Developer

Real estate investors and developers see the potential in a particular piece of property. These are people who purchase a certain property and make changes in order to resell (or rent) them. Typically, investors purchase properties with buildings (like houses) already standing. They upgrade and remodel these buildings in order to gain a profit. In the vernacular, investors flip houses. Developers, on the other hand, are those who purchase an empty piece of property and build something from scratch, either to rent or sell. If you like to play the long game and you are good at planning ahead, you may want to look into investing or developing properties.

3. Real Estate Broker

Brokers are real estate agents who have gone ahead to earn the extra licensing to allow them to manage their own brokerage. Being a broker does not mean that you are broke (quite the opposite, in fact, once you’ve covered all of your business expenses). Brokers can work independently but they can also hire other agents and create an entire team to lead, overseeing transactions and keeping everyone compliant. Attention to detail and thorough knowledge of all the rules are a must! Brokers will often offer valuable training to the other real estate agents within their brokerage. If you are a natural leader and you have an entrepreneurial mindset, brokering could be your jam.

4. Real Estate Property Manager

Remember career option #2? Well, property managers work closely with the investors and developers. Property managers are the ones looking after the actual property rather than doing the long-term planning and budgeting. Property managers make sure everything is going well on the property and take care of the daily details. They may oversee the remodeling or building processes on-site or deal with any tenants if the property is rented. If you are a detail-oriented person who has people skills, this could be the path for you.

5. Real Estate Rockstar

Ok, ok, this is not a technical name for a real estate career. But who doesn’t want to be a Rockstar – a true master in their field? One of the best ways to learn, grow, and thrive along your chosen path is to become part of a team – a place where you are surrounded by other agents cheering you on to success. No longer left alone on a island to figure out the real estate world by yourself, you are intentionally cared for and guided in industry best practices. Is there such a real estate team in Knoxville? Believe it or not, there is! Becoming part of this Knoxville real estate team could provide you with just the community, the training, and the support you need to skyrocket your career.
